Dihydrotestosterone
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a potent androgen made from testosterone. It is especially active in the skin, hair follicles, and prostate.

DHT is a stronger androgen than testosterone in certain tissues and plays a major role in male-pattern body and facial hair, and in prostate growth. Measuring it can help evaluate androgen-related concerns, including some causes of hair loss or differences in sexual development. Its production depends on an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, so medications affecting that enzyme change levels.
A high DHT may reflect increased androgen activity and is sometimes considered in the context of male-pattern hair loss, excess hair growth, or prostate concerns. It is interpreted alongside testosterone and your clinical picture rather than alone.
A low DHT can occur naturally or from medications that block its production, and may relate to reduced androgen effects in certain tissues.
