Thyroglobulin Antibody
Thyroglobulin antibodies are immune proteins directed against thyroglobulin, a protein your thyroid uses to store hormone. This test checks for an autoimmune reaction against your thyroid.
These antibodies can indicate autoimmune thyroid disease and are also important when interpreting thyroglobulin levels, since they can interfere with that measurement. They are sometimes used in monitoring people treated for thyroid cancer. They are typically read alongside other thyroid tests.
A positive or elevated result suggests autoimmune activity against your thyroid, seen in conditions like Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Their presence can also affect the accuracy of thyroglobulin testing. Your clinician considers them in the full context of your results.
A negative or normal result means meaningful thyroglobulin antibodies were not detected, which makes autoimmune interference less likely and supports more reliable thyroglobulin interpretation.
Labs report these antibodies as negative below a defined cutoff that differs by assay. A negative result is generally reassuring, and your clinician can explain any positive finding.
